The Dallas Cowboys have yet to hire a new offensive coordinator, firing Scott Linehan from the position earlier this month.
The vacancy is about to be filled, though.
Cowboys' owner Jerry Jones appeared on 105.3 The Fan in Dallas this evening and said a hire is coming.
Jones said that Dallas' head coach, Jason Garrett, will be making an announcement soon.
"Jason's going to be making an announcement here real quickly, but make no mistake about it, he’s going to be a key guy in what play is run on that football field. By key guy, probably have the ultimate responsibility," Jones said.
The Cowboys are expected to promote Kellen Moore into the offensive coordinator role, but Garrett will have a major say in the offense.
Jones also said that Garrett's job with the Cowboys is secure.
“The reason that it’s not being talked about is not that Jason is on shaky ground,” Jones told the station in response to talk about Garrett's status. “. . .It’s just we’re putting together ides and didn’t want to necessarily make that a featured topic around the Super Bowl. Everything is as it should be.”
