Chiefs Rookie Missed Sister's Wedding For First NFL Start

Sunday night's game was a special one for Kansas City Chiefs running back Carson Steele, and it was also a special day for his family as well.

The undrafted rookie made his first career start in place of the injured Isiah Pacheco in Week 3's close win over Atlanta — at the same time that his sister, Kesslar, was getting married.

Steele was reportedly supposed to be a groomsman in the wedding (which may/may not speak to his loved ones' confidence in his NFL dream) but instead carried the ball 17 times for 72 yards for the back-to-back defending Super Bowl champions in primetime.

NBC showed a clip of the wedding party cheering him on during its SNF broadcast and the former Ball State/UCLA star was asked after the game whether or not he'd rather be at his sister's nuptials.

"Man, I hate to say it, but I'd be here every day of the week," Steele laughed. "Love you Kesslar. I hope it went well."

Steele also shared with the Kansas City Star that his sister helped calm his nerves after fumbling the ball against the Bengals in Week 2.

"She had a crazy busy week, so we talked back and forth, and she calmed me down about things," he said.

With no concrete timetable for Pacheco's return, Steele will likely continue to be the lead back in KC's offense at least until the team can get Kareem Hunt up to speed.

Although if he keeps averaging over four yards per carry, the Chiefs may keep things as is.
