Eagles Owner Has Honest Admission About Firing Andy Reid
After a disappointing season in 2012, the Eagles announced that Andy Reid would not return. That led to him becoming the next head coach of the Chiefs.
On Sunday night, Reid will have a chance to lead the Chiefs to a Super Bowl victory over the Eagles.
With kickoff approaching very soon, Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie looked back at his time spent with Reid. He admit that it was "extremely difficult" to part ways with such a talented coach.
“It was extremely difficult because I was personally extremely close with Andy,” Lurie said, via the Washington Post. “Obviously we were very, very successful together. He represented everything that I believe in. … I just think the best thing for Andy at the time — and I think his family probably thought the best thing for Andy at the time — was to have a different environment for his family at that moment in time. I always thought he’d be highly successful wherever he went. I credit the Chiefs for immediately realizing their opportunity. And they got a first-ballot Hall of Fame coach, in my opinion.”
Reid finished his tenure in Philly with a 130-93-1 record. He led the Eagles to the NFC Championship Game five times from 1999 to 2012.
Since joining the Chiefs, Reid has made the AFC Championship Game every season when Patrick Mahomes is his starting quarterback. In 2019, they won their first Super Bowl together.
Another Super Bowl title would strengthen Reid's résumé, there's no doubt about it.
