Initial Injury Diagnosis For Chiefs Star Rashee Rice Has Been Revealed

The Kansas City Chiefs defeated the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday, but it came at a price. Wide receiver Rashee Rice was carted off the field with a knee injury.

Patrick Mahomes accidentally collided into Rice's knee as he was trying to recover a Chargers fumble. When asked about Rice's injury at halftime, Chiefs head coach Andy Reid said, "It's not good."

Unfortunately for the Chiefs, the latest update on Rice is downright devastating.

According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Chiefs fear that Rice suffered a torn ACL. That would end his 2024 season.

"Chiefs WR Rashee Rice is feared to have suffered a torn ACL during Sunday’s game vs the Chargers, per sources. There will be additional testing to confirm the initial diagnosis," Schefter said.

This is brutal news for the Chiefs. They've already lost Hollywood Brown and Isiah Pacheco to long-term injuries. The last thing they needed was another injury to their offensive personnel.

Mahomes was asked about Rice's injury during his postgame press conference. He talked about having a "next man up" mentality for Week 5 and beyond.

"We'll see what happens with Rashee," Mahomes said. "Hopefully we can get him back at some point this season, but if not, other guys gotta step up. That's what football is about. I think we've got a lot of good guys out there that can go out there and make plays."

The Chiefs will need rookie wideout Xavier Worthy to step up. He had three receptions for 73 yards and a touchdown.
