Kansas City Chiefs backup quarterback Chad Henne announced his retirement immediately following the end of Super Bowl LVII on Sunday.

A second-round pick of the Miami Dolphins back in 2008, Henne, 37, spent 15 years in the NFL with three different franchises. For the last five years, he was Patrick Mahomes' backup with Kansas City.

On this week's edition of "The Adam Schefter Podcast," Henne broke down what went into his decision to retire, which is something he's been thinking about for a while.

"I kind of just knew going into the year this might be it and obviously how far we got, getting to the Super Bowl again and obviously going up against the Philadelphia Eagles which is another tie ... I grew up an hour outside of Philadelphia," Henne said. "It's one of those where I knew in the moment. The closest people around me knew. Then my agent was like, 'Hey, Bud Light wants to do this thing for ya if you're willing to put it out there that you're going to retire.' I said I think I'm at peace and going out on top, it's just one of those that it was an easy decision."

For his career, Henne finished with 13,290 passing yards, 60 touchdowns and 63 interceptions in 78 games. His record as a starter was 18-36.

As the No. 2 in Kansas City, Henne was called upon twice in relief in the postseason, and both times he came through. The first instance was in the AFC Divisional Playoffs against Cleveland two years ago, when Henne replaced an injured Mahomes and connected on 6-of-8 passes for 66 yards, including the game-clinching completion.

Then, in his year's Divisional Round, Henne came off the bench after Mahomes sprained his ankle in the second quarter. He helped engineer a 98-yard touchdown drive against the Jacksonville Jaguars, capping the march off with a one-yard touchdown pass to Travis Kelce

Hats off on a great run, Chad.
