Oakland Raiders To Reportedly File For Relocation To Las Vegas, NV
The Oakland Raiders are reportedly all set to file the relocation papers to make the move to Las Vegas.
According to a report from NFL.com's Ian Rapoport, the Oakland Raiders will file the relocation papers necessary to make the move to Las Vegas, Nevada.
The Raiders would need 24 votes from NFL owners to formally make the move, and the vote will come sometime this spring.
The news comes as a shock to most NFL fans, but apparently relocation has been in the works for some time now.
Per NFL.com's Ian Rapoport:
The city of Oakland has made no progress to keep the team, sources say. It has not come up with a stadium proposal that league or independent sources believe is credible. At this point, it is only a matter of time before they officially leave.
Well, there you have it.
NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell previously said "if the (Raiders) decide that they can't make it work in Oakland and they decide that they want to file for relocation, then their window is from when they get eliminated from the playoffs to Februrary 15."
They are all set to file before the window closes.
The Raiders will likely play in Oakland for at least a year or two as the stadium in Vegas is being built—assuming the vote from the owners passes—but after that, it's off to Vegas for the Raiders.
