Raiders Share Concerning News On Quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo
The Las Vegas Raiders signed Jimmy Garoppolo this offseason hoping he'd provide some stability at quarterback following the departure of Derek Carr.
Of course, the biggest issue Garoppolo has faced throughout his career isn't related to his play. It's about whether or not he can stay healthy.
Given his significant injury history, it's understandable why some eyebrows may be raised by Thursday's update on Garoppolo provided by Las Vegas head coach Josh McDaniels.
"Raiders coach Josh McDaniels tells media QB Jimmy Garoppolo hasn't practiced at OTAs this week," tweeted CBS Sports' Jonathan Jones. "He declines to get into any injury specifics but 'our preference is to not push or rush anyone at this time.' Focus is on everyone being healthy for training camp."
It makes sense for the Raiders to be cautious with a veteran quarterback like Garoppolo, much like the New York Jets are doing with Aaron Rodgers after he tweaked his calf at OTAs earlier this week.
The problem becomes if whatever Garoppolo's undisclosed health issue is lingers into the summer. Again, we're talking about a guy who missed six games last season and 11 in 2020, though Garoppolo did start 15 out of 17 contests in 2021 and played the entire 2019 campaign.
Garoppolo, 31, signed a three-year, $48.5 million contract with 45 million guaranteed this offseason.
