Rams QB Matthew Stafford Could Be Headed To Injured Reserve
The Los Angeles Rams are down bad right now after losing to the Dallas Cowboys and falling to 3-5 on the season. But things could go from bad to worse with the latest update on quarterback Matthew Stafford.
According to Rams insider Jourdan Rodrigue, the Rams are considering placing Stafford on injured reserve due to a thumb injury he's dealing with. It would only be a short-term injury reserve stint, but would still cost him four games.
"The Rams are evaluating a range of potential scenarios with QB Matthew Stafford and his thumb injury, per source, and he’ll have further testing plus assessment on how he’s gripping the ball through the week. Chillier conditions in GB combined with a bye after are some details in consideration for the short term, but Rams also are not ruling out injured reserve at this point as they are still gathering information that helps discern a larger timeline for Stafford," Rodrigue wrote.
Stafford completed just 13 passes for 162 yards - both season lows - in a 43-20 loss to the Cowboys.
At 3-5 on the season, the Rams are two games behind both the Seattle Seahawks and the San Francisco 49ers in the NFC West. Losing Stafford for the next four games could send them into a hole that they can't climb out of.
On the other hand, it won't do the team any good if Stafford's thumb is keeping him from moving the ball efficiently.
Should the Rams put Stafford on IR, or should they let him fight through it?
