Mel Kiper Projects These 3 QBs Will All Be First-Round Picks

Mel Kiper gives NFL Draft analysis on ESPN.

This year's NFL Draft quarterback class is not nearly as highly-regarded as last year's was, but a number of prospects figure to draw first-round consideration. It's doubtful we get five quarterbacks off the board in Round 1 like 2018, but more than one is almost a guarantee.

Ohio State's Dwayne Haskins is viewed as a first-round lock, and beyond that, things are a little less clear. The decision by Oklahoma's Kyler Murray to enter the NFL Draft certainly adds intrigue and puts him in the first-round conversation.

ESPN draft expert Mel Kiper released his first 2019 mock draft today. He has three signal callers going in the first round: Haskins, Murray and Duke's Daniel Jones.

He has Haskins going No. 6 to the New York Giants, Murray at No. 13 to the Miami Dolphins and Jones at No. 29 to the New England Patriots.

Kiper went more in-depth on his reasoning for all three picks on Get Up! this morning. You can watch that clip here and the full NFL draft segment from the show below.

The Giants badly need to find a successor to Eli Manning, so Haskins has been a popular pick in mock drafts, though as Kiper notes, they may need to trade up to get him.

Miami is bringing in a new head coach (reported to be New England assistant Brian Flores) and still hasn't ended its two-decade long quest for a franchise quarterback post-Marino. Murray has some risks (particularly size-related) but the talent is there, so its worth the gamble.

As for Jones to the Patriots, his performance this year and pedigree of working with David Cutcliffe could be enticing to a number of teams. Is he the eventual heir to Tom Brady?
