Fans Are Done With Marcus Mariota After Brutal Performance Tonight
Marcus Mariota did not have much success during tonight's preseason game between the Eagles and the Browns.
Mariota, who is in line to be the backup behind Jalen Hurts in Philadelphia this season, went just 9-of-17 passing for 87 yards and an interception as the Eagles fell behind 8-3 by halftime.
The former No. 2 overall pick's performance was widely-panned on Twitter.
"Old enough to remember Marcus Mariota completing about 5 passes for the Raiders on TNF a few years ago and this website demanding to see him in a starting role," said longtime football writer Mike Tanier.
Sam Wagman from The GameDay broke out the Moneyball meme for Mariota, while Philadelphia beat writer Jimmy Kempski trolled the QB with one of his trademark cartoon sketches.
"For Marcus Mariota to be such a good athlete he’s always looked like the Tin Man playing quarterback to me. Stiff hips. Stiff delivery. Just stiff," another commenter added.
"How did the Falcons start Marcus Mariota last year and stay within 1 score in 15 of 17 games?" wondered Sharp Football's Warren Sharp. "Hilariously bad."
Mariota's night is over, and rookie Tanner McKee is now in as the Eagles' quarterback.
The good news for the now-journeyman signal caller is that tonight likely won't cost Mariota his job, though he will definitely want to pick up his play if he appears in Philadelphia's preseason finale next week.
