Vikings Cut Quarterback After Reaching Decision On Daniel Jones
Those not paying attention might've forgotten that the Vikings picked up Daniel Jones.
After the Giants chose to part ways with their $140 million quarterback, Minnesota scooped him up on one-year deal for the remainder of the season worth $375,000.
Jones started his Vikings tenure on the practice squad. But now it looks like the former sixth overall pick has been added to the team's active roster just in time for the playoffs.
Per the club itself: "The #Vikings have signed QB Daniel Jones to the 53-man roster and waived QB Brett Rypien."
Now by signing Jones to the active roster, he'll be in line to serve as Minnesota's backup or third-string quarterback for Monday night's postseason tilt with the Rams.
Nick Mullens has been the backup to Sam Darnold all year long after J.J. McCarthy suffered a season-ending knee injury in the team's first preseason game.
Jones' signing will also be factored into the NFL's compensatory pick formula should he sign somewhere else after free agency opens in a couple months.
As bad as things got for Jones in New York, being able to sign with a very good team and learning from a coach like Kevin O'Connell should only be good for his career.
The former Duke product was benched by the G-Men after throwing for 2,070 yards, eight touchdowns and seven interceptions this season and his career mark as a starter was 24-44-1.
