A former first round pick was carted off the field on Thursday night. New England Patriots offensive lineman Isaiah Wynn left the field and never returned.

The former Georgia standout went into the medical tent before getting carted off the field. Initial reports suggested Wynn injured his ankle.

A new report from Adam Schefter reveals the severity of the injury. Wynn suffered a torn Achilles during the first half of the game.

As a result, he'll miss the 2018 season.

New England selected Wynn with the No. 23 overall pick in the 2018 NFL draft. The former Bulldog was named First Team All-SEC and was named a Second Team All-American.

It's a tough blow for the rookie, who was in position to start at right tackle for the team. Injuries have plagued the preseason this year and Wynn became the second star rookie to suffer a season-ending injury after Washington Redskins running back Derrius Guice.
