Despite Cam Newton's recent struggles, which led to him being benched during Sunday's loss, Bill Belichick is sticking with the veteran quarterback.

After the game, Belichick told reporters he was "absolutely" sticking with Newton as the team's starter. The New England head coach pulled the former league MVP in the second half against San Francisco after Newton threw three interceptions.

This morning, Belichick was once again adamant, insisting that Newton gives the team the best chance to win games. Jarrett Stidham and Brian Hoyer are the Patriots' other options at the position.

“I think he’s our best player there, so again there are other problems offensively,” Belichick said during an appearance on WEEI's "Ordway, Merloni & Fauria" today. “There are things we need to do better and that is what we’re going to work on. I think we have our best players out there. We just have to find a way to be more productive. We have been at times, but we certainly weren’t yesterday, and we need to see if we can improve that.”

As for the question of whether or not Newton is struggling with the aftereffects of COVID-19, which has led to him playing poorly, Belichick said that's not the case.

After getting off to a strong start in New England, Cam Newton has thrown one touchdown and six interceptions in his last three games.

The Patriots are 2-4, their worst start in two decades. They'll need Cam to start turning things around soon, beginning with this weekend against Buffalo.
