Patriots Release Update On Josh Gordon's Status For Sunday's Game

It has been a whirlwind few days for the newest New England Patriot, wide receiver Josh Gordon.

The former Pro Bowler missed the Cleveland Browns' Week 2 game on Sunday, held out after he aggravated a hamstring injury during a shoot for his clothing line. A few hours after that announcement, the team decided that its time with Gordon was over.

After saying that he would be cut, the Browns then put Gordon on the trade market. A few days later, they finalized a deal with the Pats, sending Gordon and a seventh rounder for a fifth round pick.

Gordon practiced this week, and the odds look good for him seeing the field on Sunday against the Detroit Lions.

The Patriots put out their injury report today; Josh Gordon is listed as questionable.

Perhaps the bigger news there is that superstar tight end Rob Gronkowski is no longer on the report at all. Short of the suspended Julian Edelman, Tom Brady will have a full compliment of weapons in Detroit.

How involved Gordon will be in this first game on his new team is a legitimate question, of course.

He caught just one pass during the Browns' Week 1 tie with the Pittsburgh Steelers, though it was a big one: his 17-yard touchdown tied the game.

Gordon played in a handful of games last season, after sitting out all of 2016, and missing 2015 due to suspension. It has been a long road back for Gordon, but he could have a star turn in New England. Or he could be off the team in a few weeks.

How this works out is truly anyone's guess.
