Update: Well, maybe New England was doing something it shouldn't have on Sunday.

The plot, it thickens. Update: Well, we have a reported explanation for what happened, courtesy of ESPN's Adam Schefter. As it turns out, this might have all just been one huge false alarm.

The Patriots potentially cheating again would have been an insanely juicy story, but it doesn't seem to be the reality of the situation.

Earlier: The NFL is reportedly investigating whether the New England Patriots were videotaping the Cincinnati Bengals' sideline during yesterday's game.

News of this potentially explosive allegation popped up during Bengals head coach Zac Taylor's press conference a short time ago. Taylor was asked about the possibility that the Patriots taped their signals during Sunday's loss to the Cleveland Browns.

Taylor said he was "aware" of an incident and said the NFL was looking into it.

ESPN's Dianna Russini reports that the NFL is indeed investigating the matter. Right now, the Bengals don't have much to say, other than confirming they are aware of the issue.

Is this Spy Gate 2.0? Or did New England actually not break any rules and this is all just a misunderstanding?

We should find out more as this situation unfolds. If the Patriots are found guilty of something nefarious, it will be the biggest story in the NFL this season.

And to think, they would have gotten caught doing it to try and gain an advantage over the lowly Bengals.
