Jadeveon Clowney has had a busy off-season.
The star defensive player wants a new contract, but the Houston Texans are hesitant to meet his demands.
A new report reveals how much Clowney wants from the Texans, via Aaron Wilson of The Houston Chronicle.
"If Jadeveon Clowney had accepted Texans' previous offer, which was very far below his financial expectations of getting into the Khalil Mack, Aaron Donald neighborhood, per sources, it would have been regarded as a complete steal for the Texans for a player of his caliber," Wilson tweeted.
Clowney certainly has talent, but many are questioning his asking price. Mack and Donald are considered two of the best defensive players in the NFL — is Clowney on that level?
The defensive end had 47 tackles and nine sacks in 2018. The year before, Clowney came up with 59 tackles and 9.5 sacks.
In these circumstances, Clowney has the leverage. He wants to be traded, which the Texans are now open to.
But before he can be traded, he must sign the franchise tender. So Clowney can wait to sign the franchise tender until he likes a certain trade destination.
The Texans' season opener is just 10 days away. Houston will play the Saints on Monday Night Football. Will Clowney's situation be settled by then?
