There was plenty of shock and confusion following a recent report saying pending free agent Daniel Jones was seeking $45 million from the New York Giants.

Now, according to the latest scuttlebutt from New York radio host Craig Carton, such a request never happened. Carton said on his show Thursday that "people in the know" told him that Jones and his new representation Athletes First never told the Giants they wanted $45 million.

"The agents at CAA [Jones' old agency] leaked that story out because they were bitter that Daniel Jones left them for a new agency and they wanted to make him look bad," Carton said.

Now, there's no way to confirm right now whether or not Carton's info is accurate, just as there was no way to definitively say Jones had asked for $45 million.

As you might expect though, Giants fans have been busy discussing the latest rumor this afternoon.

"Yup all smoke and mirrors and slander on Jones. Anybody with half a brain should've recognized that Jones demand was wild and out of nowhere," one said.

"If this is a legit source, then this is crazy," said another.

"I hope this is true," added a third fan.

NFL teams have until March 7 to use the franchise tag on a player, so if the Giants are committed to bringing Jones back, they have 12 days to do it on a long-term deal or they will have to use the tag as a placeholder.
