Former NFL Coach Claims Aaron Rodgers Wants Jets To Cut Him

It's been a tough 2024 season for Aaron Rodgers and the New York Jets

The Jets came into this season with high expectations since Rodgers was back healthy but they have come up short, winning only four games through their first 15 games.

After this season, Rodgers faces an uncertain future as the Jets try to hire a new general manager and head coach. They fired GM Joe Douglas and head coach Robert Saleh earlier this season since they weren't meeting expectations.

Eric Mangini, who coached the Jets from 2006-08, thinks Rodgers wants the Jets to cut him even though Rodgers has said that he'd like to return to New York in 2025.

“The fact that Aaron brought up the, ‘I’ve never been cut by a teenager (and) I’ve never been released by a teenager,’ that’s a direct shot at the owner,” Mangini said, via the New York Post. “That’s legitimizing everything that’s been said in that organization. That’s making fun of how dysfunctional it is. So to me, as soon as he said that, in my mind, said he wants out."

Rodgers's future will be up to the new front office and head coach once they get hired after the season. In 15 games this season, Rodgers is completing 62.8% of his passes for 3,511 yards through the air, 24 touchdowns, and eight interceptions.

If the Jets move on from Rodgers, they'll have to get their next starting quarterback through the draft, free agency, or a trade if a team wants to move on from its starter.

The Jets will finish their 2024 season with matchups against the Buffalo Bills and Miami Dolphins

Kickoff for Sunday's game against the Bills will be at 1 p.m. ET on CBS. Jim Nantz and Tony Romo will have the call.
