The Dallas Cowboys are in Hawaii for a preseason contest against the Los Angeles Rams.

Several high-profile players didn't make the trip, like Pro Bowl linemen Tyron Smith and Zack Martin. Perhaps the biggest name that won't be on the field, though, is star running back Ezekiel Elliott.

The former Ohio State running back remains away from the team as he fights for a new contract.

Elliott took his talents to Cabo earlier this summer to run his own workout regimen.

Earlier this weekend, the star running back was reportedly spotted on a flight leaving Mexico for Dallas. Some wondered if that meant he and the Cowboys were nearing a deal.

Well, a Cowboys insider, Mike Leslie, confirmed Elliott was on the flight back to Dallas. However, that doesn't mean a deal is close.

"The decision to fly home is not necessarily indicative that a deal is imminent, but it also isn’t a bad sign," Leslie said.

Elliott led the NFL in rushing last season and is arguably the best at his position in the game.

We'll have to wait and see if the Cowboys want to pay him as such.

Stay tuned for the latest NFL news and Elliott's contract.
