Ezekiel Elliott and the Dallas Cowboys have agreed on a massive six-year contract extension worth $90 million. Zeke will be with the team for practice today.
With Week 1 just a few days away, Dallas figures to throw its bell cow back right into the fire. The expectation is that Elliott will play against the New York Giants on Sunday.
NFL Network insider Jane Slater has been on top of the Elliott saga the entire time, and this morning she reported Dallas’ Week 1 plan for its top rusher.
Right now, Elliott is expected to get “20-25” reps on Sunday, with rookie Tony Pollard backing him up.
Ahead of Ezekiel Elliott’s first team practice since June, I’m told the plan right now is about 20-25 reps on Sunday, rookie Tony Pollard behind him and FB Jamize Olawale as your best blitz pickup guy on 3rd downs. Things can always change but this is the plan heading into today.

Assuming that 20-25 figure is for total snaps, we’ll have to see how many touches Elliott gets. Dallas will want to break him in right away but we can’t imagine they will overwork him either.
After all, the goal should be to keep Elliott as fresh as possible for the stretch run and a possible playoff chase.
Dallas and New York will kick off at 4:25 p.m. ET on Sunday on FOX.
