What Jerry Jones Wants To Do With Tony Romo Week 17

Will Tony Romo play against the Eagles?

Late in the fourth quarter of the Cowboys' blowout win over the Lions on Monday Night Football, chants of "Ro-Mo! Ro-Mo! Ro-Mo!" could be heard coming from the stands of AT&T Stadium.

The quarterback being called for remained on the bench, though.

Will Cowboys fans finally get to see Tony Romo play next week against the Philadelphia Eagles?

Probably not.

Dallas owner Jerry Jones said he doesn't see the benefit in playing Romo behind a non-No. 1 offensive line.

There are two angles to this, really:

  1. The Cowboys don't want to play Romo and risk him getting hurt, losing their backup QB for the playoffs and a potentially valuable trade chip.
  2. The Cowboys don't want to play Romo, have him light it up, and stir up another mini-QB controversy heading into the playoffs.

Dallas and Philadelphia are set to kick off at 1 p.m. E.T. on Sunday. The game will be televised on FOX.
