On Thursday night, the New York Giants faced off against the Cincinnati Bengals in the third preseason contest for both squads.

The third preseason game is generally when starters see the most action, but the Giants held several stars out of the game for safety. Star running back Saquon Barkley isn't going to see the field, and neither is wide receiver Sterling Shepard - who is dealing with a thumb injury.

One player who is on the field tonight is starting quarterback Eli Manning.

In his 16th season as an NFL quarterback, Manning finally has some true competition in No. 6 overall pick Daniel Jones.

Manning might feel the pressure, because he's doing everything in his power to hold down the starting job. That includes running down the field and attempting to block for his running back.

Check it out.

Former Clemson star Wayne Gallman evaded a few defenders before trying to bounce the run outside.

Manning was in his way, but the veteran quarterback made use of himself and attempted to throw a block. It didn't quite work out, but it's the effort that truly counts.

Manning's first series of the game ended with an Aldrick Rosas field goal to give the Giants a 3-0 lead.
