When the Philadelphia Eagles take the field this weekend for their game against the Detroit Lions, they'll have to do so without a star wide receiver.

Wide receivers Alshon Jeffery and DeSean Jackson both suffered injuries in Philadelphia's loss to the Atlanta Falcons last weekend. Initial reports suggested both players could miss several weeks with their respective injuries.

On Friday morning, Eagles head coach Doug Pederson provided an injury update for his star wideouts.

Pederson said Jackson will not play this weekend, but he's optimistic Jeffery will be on the field.

Earlier this week, NFL insider Mike Garafolo said he expects Jackson to miss the team's next game as well. Garafolo suggested if Jackson and Jeffery are back for Week 5 against the New York Jets it would be a "good result."

It looks like Jeffery could be ahead of schedule.

The Eagles and Jets come off of a short week for a Thursday night contest, which gives Jackson less time to get healthy.

Wide receivers J.J. Arcega-Whiteside, Mack Hollins and Nelson Agholor will have to step up for the Eagles this Sunday if Jeffery is out as well.

Expect tight end Zach Ertz to be hyper-targeted as well in the absence of Jackson and possibly Jeffery.
