On Thursday night, the Green Bay Packers hosted the Philadelphia Eagles in one of the biggest NFC contests of the season.

The game took a nasty turn early in the first quarter when Eagles defensive lineman Derek Barnett hit Packers running back Jamaal Williams.

Barnett came in after the whistle and hit Williams up high. The hit appeared to render Williams unconscious and he laid motionless on the field for a short period of time.

The running back moved slightly before getting carted off of the field on a stretcher.

Video of the play shows the hit.

Fans watching from home immediately suggested Barnett should be kicked out of the game for the illegal hit.

The former Tennessee star received a flag for unnecessary roughness, but remained in the game.

If the NFL instituted college rules, Barnett would have been removed for the rest of the contest. However, per NFL rules, Barnett will remain in the game.

Green Bay went on to score on the drive and currently lead 7-0. As for Williams, he gave a thumbs up to the crowd before getting stretchered off the field.

Stay tuned for further updates from the game and a statement from the team on Williams' health.
