Hurts went through pregame warmups and was supposed to start against the Patriots, but was a last-minute pull. Why? It was reported he had an illness and couldn’t give it a go. The illness, thankfully, was not COVID-19-related and Hurts returned to the practice field this weekend.
Hurts hasn’t gotten many in-game reps this preseason. He could sure use them ahead of the fast-approaching 2021 season. But Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni may opt to hold Hurts out of the lineup in their final preseason game to ensure he’s healthy for the regular season.
Sirianni told reporters on Sunday he hasn’t made a decision on whether or not Hurts will play the Jets in their final preseason game.
He’ll first observe how the Eagles-Jets joint practices go, per Dave Zangaro of NBC Sports Philly.
Nick Sirianni said they still haven't made a decision on whether or not Jalen Hurts will play in the preseason finale on Friday. They want to see how the two joint practices with the Jets go first.

It would be wise to get Jalen Hurts at least a series or two against the New York Jets. He’s still inexperienced and needs some live reps. It sounds like Sirianni may feel otherwise, though.
Veterans Joe Flacco and Nick Mullens ran the Eagles offense in Hurts’ absence on Thursday. It was a pretty ugly performance all-around.
The Eagles take on the Jets this Friday at 7:30 p.m. ET.
