Colin Cowherd has been advocating for Tua Tagovailoa as the top QB in the 2020 NFL Draft for a long time. While it seems like a foregone conclusion that he won't go No. 1 overall to the Cincinnati Bengals, it seems unlikely he'll fall out of the top five. But FOX Sports' Colin Cowherd believes that a team that recently drafted a QB in the first round should jump at the opportunity to land the Alabama signal caller.
On Friday's edition of The Herd, Cowherd responded to Mel Kiper Jr.'s recent comments that the Washington Redskins should draft Tua with their No. 2 overall pick. Cowherd was in full agreement with the ESPN analyst, explaining that the Redskins should admit they were wrong about last year's first-round pick Dwayne Haskins and draft the better prospect.
"Kiper is right. Tua is better than Haskins at everything except size," Cowherd said.
The FOX host suggested pointed out that Washington's new head coach Ron Rivera doesn't have any attachment to Haskins, so he should have no problem cutting ties with the former Ohio State star. He further stated that rumors are coming out about Haskins' work ethic and maturity.
Washington drafted Haskins No. 15 overall in the 2019 NFL Draft. He didn't win the starting job as a rookie though, and didn't get his first start until after the team fired head coach Jay Gruden. Haskins went 2-5 as a starter, throwing seven touchdowns and seven interceptions as a rookie.
After the season though, Washington owner Dan Snyder fired most of the front office. So much of the team that drafted Haskins isn't even around to defend his selection.
Ultimately, it will be Snyder's decision whether he wants to keep Haskins, or give up on him after the first year.
But if the success that Arizona had with Kyler Murray one year after drafting Josh Rosen in the first-round is any indication, it's not as crazy of an idea as one might think.
Will the Washington Redskins dump Dwayne Haskins and draft a QB like Tua Tagovailoa?
