Mark Sanchez last played in the NFL in 2016, when he made two appearances for the Dallas Cowboys.

The 32-year old started for the New York Jets from 2009-2012, but after his first four years in the league, wound up serving as a backup for the Philadelphia Eagles and Cowboys for three seasons before bowing out of the league.

There's a chance he could be back, though.

Mark Sanchez is one of three relatively notable quarterbacks working out for Washington after the devastating Alex Smith injury.

Smith suffered a gruesome leg injury during today's loss to the Houston Texans. He broke both his fibia and tibia on a hit.

He is out for the year and head coach Jay Gruden says he is having immediate surgery.

Colt McCoy stepped in to replace Smith. Sanchez, former Texans quarterback T.J. Yates, and former Buffalo Bills first rounder E.J. Manuel are working out for the team.

Those aren't the best options, especially for a team that is currently a game up in its division.

Washington is 6-4 after today's loss, one ahead of the Cowboys and two ahead of the Philadelphia Eagles.
