In a recent interview, Rivera acknowledged that his team has improved on its vaccination numbers. But he pointed out that there are a few players who have “dug in their heels” on the issue of taking vaccines.
Rivera said he’s concerned that he’ll be told on a Sunday morning that some of his players won’t be available because of a positive test or contact tracing.
He also had a bit of a personal stake in this issue being resolved. Rivera underwent treatment for cancer last year, and is at a higher risk of infection due to his compromised immune system. It’s a subject he’s addressed repeatedly to his team and the media. But to no avail apparently.
Rivera Says feels better about vaccine #'s but "we have a few guys who have held out and dug in their heels a little bit. That's the concern." Says fear is being told on a Sun morning that some guys won't be available b/c either tested positive or are now contract tracing.

We’re already seeing some teams with players and coaches who are not confirmed to be vaccinated go into multi-day quarantine due to an infection or contact tracing.
The NFL has made it clear that there will be serious punishments for those who violate protocols this year. But the penalties may be steeper for unvaccinated players who miss games.
Teams may be forced to forfeit games entirely if they have insufficient players to play in a game due to unvaccinated infections.
The NFL season is only a few days away. We’ve all got our fingers crossed.
