The Washington Redskins officially announced this week the retiring of the team’s name and logo heading into the 2020 season.
Washington owner Daniel Snyder announced the decision.
“On July 3rd, we announced the commencement of a thorough review of the team’s name. That review has begun in earnest. As part of this process, we want to keep our sponsors, fans and community apprised of our thinking as we go forward.
Today, we are announcing we will be retiring the Redskins name and logo upon completion of this review,” the Washington football team announced.
Washington has yet to announce a new name, but a couple of different suggestions are gaining popularity among the fan base.
One such name is the “Red Wolves.” That name, along with Red Tails and Warriors, is among the favorites on social media.
Washington fans are loving one “Red Wolves” uniform mockup.
“Easily the best mock-up I have seen for the rebrand. No contest. This is the one,” NBC Sports Washington’s Chase Hughes tweeted.

It’s certainly a cool look, but it might be a bit too similar to the old Redskins uniform and logo.
Washington is expected to announce an official decision on the new name and logo before the start of the 2020 season.
