The Philadelphia Eagles acquired Darius Slay from the Lions in exchange for two draft picks on Thursday.

The massive trade is going to help the Eagles become an NFC contender once again after a disappointing 2019 season that ended in a playoff loss to the Seahawks. Slay is regarded as one of the top corners in the NFL.

The star defensive back is excited to start his new journey in Philadelphia, but that's not to say he won't miss Detroit. Slay has spent his first seven seasons in the NFL with the Lions.

Slay took to Twitter following the trade news to post a heartfelt message for Detroit and its fans. Lions fans are going to want to read this:

Slay's past three seasons have been his most productive. The 6-foot corner compiled 46 tackles and two picks in 14 games in 2019. The Lions are surely going to miss him on defense.

But Detroit isn't walking away empty handed from the trade. The Eagles have sent a third-round pick (No. 85 overall) and fifth-round pick (No. 166 overall) in the upcoming draft in exchange for Slay. The Lions' new picks will allow for much-needed roster upgrades.

Slay is going to have a big defensive impact for the Eagles in 2020.
