In the weeks leading up to the 2022 NFL draft, former Michigan star Aidan Hutchinson was viewed as the consensus No. 1 pick.
It wasn't exactly a slam dunk, but he was viewed as the best overall prospect. Well, when the Jacksonville Jaguars announced the No. 1 overall pick, it wasn't Hutchinson.
Instead, the Jaguars selected former Georgia standout Travon Walker. That allowed the Detroit Lions to select their home-grown star in Hutchinson with the No. 2 overall pick.
While it was a great moment for Hutchinson, it was his family - his mother in particular - who stole the show. His mom, Melissa, stole the attention of the fans and they couldn't get enough.
In the week leading up to the draft, she showed her appreciation for all of the support her family received.
"I could write a book about our experience so far, but for now, all I can say is meeting and working with some of the most incredibly kind, hard-working, beautifully-spirited people has by far been some of the greatest experiences of my own life in the last 6 months," she said.
"As you can imagine, this is all pretty surreal for our family, definitely unchartered territory….I say this over and again, but gratitude runs deep for all the support."
The family won't have to move to attend his games next year.
Congratulations to Aidan, Melissa and the entire Hutchinson family.
