FOX Sports commentator Colin Cowherd is finalizing his predictions for the 2021 season ahead of tomorrow’s season opener. But while adjusting his projected win-loss record for various teams, he realized there’s one team he can’t stop picking – regardless of how wrong he’s been about them.
On Wednesday’s edition of The Herd, Cowherd decided to give the Atlanta Falcons a 9-8 record – up from the 8-9 record he had them at before. He said he likes what he saw from them in the preseason, but then realized something else.
“I like what I saw with Atlanta,” Cowherd said. “They’ve got a spark. I’m moving them up. I’ve moved them up twice and I know I’m an idiot, because I haven’t won a Falcons game in 37 years. I don’t know what’s going on with me. But I like what I see, and I like what I hear. I have Atlanta now in second place in that division…”
It’s a somewhat gutsy prediction for the Falcons given the year they just had and the offseason changes they’ve made. Atlanta have a new head coach and general manager for this season and are coming off a 4-12 season.

Former Tennessee Titans offensive coordinator Arthur Smith is the Atlanta Falcons’ head coach this year. Longtime general manager Thomas Dimitroff was also dismissed, and was replaced by former New Orleans Saints assistant GM Terry Fontenot at his position.
The Falcons defense remains suspect after leading the NFL in passing yards allowed last year.
But they still have a veteran quarterback in Matt Ryan – even if longtime wide receiver Julio Jones is now gone.
Maybe Colin Cowherd is onto something with the Atlanta Falcons this time.
