The Panthers and head coach Ron Rivera have a difficult decision ahead of them. Kyle Allen has done a tremendous job filling in for Cam Newton during Newton's injury recovery.

National analysts and football fans even believe Allen should continue to start when Newton returns. But the former NFL MVP is coming back to retake his starting spot.

If Rivera chooses to stick with Allen, what's Carolina's plan for Newton? Preliminary trade talks are already swirling around the league.

ESPN's Adam Schefter is the latest to weight in on the situation.

“I don’t believe they’re looking to trade him now, but it begs the question,” Schefter said, via 247Sports. “Would they look to trade him in the offseason? I believe the answer would be, ‘yes.’ That would make sense."

There will be plenty of teams in the market if Newton becomes available in trade talks. But of course, it will come down to what the Panthers decide to do with their quarterbacks. If Allen keeps winning, it'll be tough to turn the reins back over to Cam.

Then again, Cam was the former MVP for a reason. While he's dealt with his fair share of injuries over the past few years, he still has what it takes to take a team to the playoffs.

But it all depends on if Allen can continue to play at the high rate he's played so far. He'll face his toughest test this Sunday against the undefeated 49ers.

If the Panthers can take down San Francisco, Allen will be that much closer to locking up the starting gig.
