Cam Newton’s season has officially come to an end. The Carolina Panthers announced on Tuesday morning that the former MVP has been placed on season-ending IR.
Newton has dealt with a foot sprain for some time now. But he re-aggravated a Linsfranc injury in Week 2 and hasn’t played since.

The Panthers quarterback is certainly sad he’ll have to sit out the entire season. Still, he shared an optimistic message on Instagram on Tuesday evening.
“Charlotte and Panthers will forever be in my heart!! I will work my tail off to be stronger, faster, smarter and accurater for you guys!! Until then, I will continue to support the hell out of the Panthers and for Kyle Allen and Will Grier!!”

The star quarterback sounds optimistic despite the unfortunate news on Tuesday. And as he says, he’ll continue to support his team and the quarterbacks filling in for him.
Kyle Allen has been Carolina’s go-to QB since Newton suffered the injury in week 2. He’s shown flashes of brilliance at times, going 5-1 as the starter this season.
It’ll be interesting to see what Ron Rivera and the Panthers decide to do with Newton regarding trade scenarios next year. But for now, all Newton will be focusing on is getting healthy.
