Earlier Tuesday morning, the Carolina Panthers reportedly made a decision on quarterback Cam Newton. Multiple reports suggested the team planned to bring him back for the 2020 season.
After weeks of trade rumors and wondering where Newton would play next, it seemed like there was finally come clarity on Newton’s future. That was until Newton took to Instagram with a cryptic message.
He posted a video of him working out and during the workout he appeared to have a message for the Panthers. Newton can be heard saying, “All I want is a little commitment and you can’t give me that?”
It’s unclear if this is a message for the Panthers or someone else. Newton is no stranger to posting cryptic messages on social media, but this one through fans for a loop – especially after the recent reports of commitment from the team.
It’s an interesting message for Newton to send just before the NFL combine and the draft in April. Here’s the video.
Newton’s video comes just hours after NFL insider Ian Rapoport made it seem like the Panthers were moving forward with Newton as the team’s quarterback for 2020.
“A lot can still happen in the coming months, but as of now, the Panthers are moving forward with Cam Newton as their starting QB, sources say. While his foot is healing well, it will be several months until it’s game-ready — a timeline that complicates any potential trade,” Rapoport tweeted.
Perhaps Newton wants more than a one-year deal?
