One NFL head coach has already been fired, with the Washington Redskins moving on from Jay Gruden on Monday. Other coaches are still on the hot seat.
As always, we’ll see a few more coaches fired, either during or after the season. ESPN has speculated on which men are in the most danger.
Earlier today, the Worldwide Leader named four coaches with the ‘hottest’ seats in the league. None of these names should be too surprising.
Three hail from the NFC, while one is from the AFC.
- Dan Quinn, Atlanta Falcons
- Jason Garrett, Dallas Cowboys
- Mike Tomlin, Pittsburgh Steelers
- Ron Rivera, Carolina Panthers
Right now, it seems like Quinn’s seat is hottest. There were some thinking he’d be fired after Sunday’s blowout loss to the Houston Texans, but the Falcons are staying pat, for now.
As for Garrett, Jerry Jones publicly refuted he is in jeopardy this week, and Jones’ longtime rumored target, Sean Payton, signed a recent contract extension with the Saints. However, a new name (Lincoln Riley, anyone?) could cause Jerry to change his mind.
Rivera’s Panthers are 3-2 on the year and 3-0 with backup rookie quarterback Kyle Allen. If his team keeps winning, he’ll survive.
Tomlin, meanwhile, is 1-4 on the year, but the Steelers are on their third-string quarterback and the team is notoriously loyal to head coaches. Time will tell how this all plays out.
