After practice was over, Panthers head coach Matt Rhule spoke to the media about that terrifying incident. He called Ibe’s hit on Kirkwood “completely unacceptable” and “undisciplined.”
Rhule refused to comment on Ibe’s future in Carolina, but it’s pretty evident that the front office has already made a final decision.
Ibe has been waived from the 90-man roster this afternoon. This should send a clear message to the rest of the Panthers’ locker room about Rhule’s expectations moving forward.

While there are countless fans applauding the Panthers for making this move, there are some who question if this was a rash decision.
“That’s a little harsh,” one fan replied. “I know it was a bad hit but it didn’t look intentional he was just playing football.”
There are also some fans who feel bad that Ibe’s chances of making the 53-man roster changed on one play. That being said, it was an unnecessary hit that could’ve left Kirkwood seriously injured.
An official update on Kirkwood’s outlook for the preseason isn’t available at this time, but Rhule told reporters that Kirkwood had movement in his extremities and isn’t feeling any neck pain.
