The bond that has been built between Drew Brees and New Orleans is unlike any other. On Thursday, the future Hall of Famer showed just how much he loves his city by announcing a generous donation.
Brees and his wife Brittany will be donating $5 million to Louisiana to help the community get back on its feet amid the current health concerns. He'll also be mobilizing his partnerships with Jimmy Johns and other companies to help deliver thousands of meals each day to people in need.
It's an amazing gesture from the Brees family, which is beloved by the sports world. His official announcement regarding the donation came on Instagram this afternoon.
"Brittany and I are committing $5,000,000 to the State of Louisiana in 2020. The priority now is helping our communities get through this tough time," Brees said. "After considerable research and conversations with local organizations, we will be mobilizing our partnerships with Second Harvest Food Bank, Ochsner Health Systems, Walk-Ons, Jimmy Johns, Smalls Sliders and Waitr to prepare and deliver over 10,000 meals per day throughout Louisiana for as long as it takes to children on meal programs, seniors, and families in need. Let’s all do our part, maintain hope, and get through this together."
Brees helped Louisiana rebuild from the damage caused by Hurricane Katrina. This isn't the first time - and it probably won't be the last - that he helps out his state.
It's been a busy month for Brees, who signed a two-year deal worth $50 million with the Saints. He's chasing one more Super Bowl ring before he retires.
While all his NFL records are impressive, charitable acts like this truly make Brees such an iconic figure in New Orleans.
