The New Orleans Saints announced the passing of their owner, Tom Benson. The 90-year-old businessman was hospitalized in late February.

Benson was admitted to the Ochsner Medical Center's intensive care unit around Feb. 21 and battled pneumonia for the better part of a month before passing away.

Earlier this month the Saints issued a release saying Benson's health showed "signs of improving." However, his health took a turn for the worse earlier this week.

According to a release from the Saints, he "passed away peacefully Thursday, March 15 at Ochsner Medical Center with his wife Gayle Marie Benson at his side."

Benson has dealt with multiple health issues in recent years. He had a similar hospital stay in October.

The Saints' owner, who also owns the New Orleans Pelicans, also had complications stemming from knee surgery in 2014.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Benson and his family and friends.
