It appears the New Orleans Saints won't be without Drew Brees for much longer. The future Hall of Famer is making excellent progress in his recovery from thumb surgery.

During a Week 2 matchup against the Los Angeles Rams, the veteran quarterback suffered torn ligaments in his thumb. Doctors gave him a 6-8 week timeline for his recovery.

As of right now, it's looking as if Brees will return by the sixth week of his original timeline. Yahoo insider Charles Robinson did report earlier this week that New Orleans may try to hold its franchise quarterback out until after the bye week.

Brees hasn't participated in full team drills just yet, but he did show up to practice without his thumb brace.

That's a really encouraging sign for Brees, who spent the past few weeks with a brace on his throwing thumb.

Here is a video of Brees at the team's facility on Friday:

From the moment he underwent surgery on his thumb Brees made it clear that he'll try to return as soon as possible.

At this pace, the Saints could have Brees on the field for Week 8 against the Arizona Cardinals.

Until then, the offense is being led by Teddy Bridgewater. He's looking for his fourth-straight win this Sunday.
