The New Orleans Saints’ fan base held its breath on Monday night, as tight end Adam Trautman was carted off the field with a ankle/foot injury. Fortunately, the latest update on Trautman is very encouraging.
According to Nick Underhill of NewOrleans.Football, the belief is that Trautman has escaped any major injury to his ankle/foot. He is reportedly going to see a specialist to get a timeline for his injury.
On Tuesday morning, it was reported that Trautman’s X-Rays were negative. Fans were still a bit worried about his status since they were waiting for his MRI results, but Underhill’s report should allow the fan base to exhale.
Trautman is expected to be the No. 1 tight end for New Orleans this fall. During his rookie season, the Dayton product had 15 catches for 171 yards and a touchdown.

It’s imperative that Trautman doesn’t miss a significant period of time because he’s the most versatile tight end that Sean Payton has on the roster.
In addition to being a weapon in the passing game, Trautman can put his hand in the dirt and block at a high level. Those are two great qualities to have in Payton’s system.
Believe it or not, Trautman wasn’t the only tight end on the Saints who suffered an injury on Monday night. NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport is reporting that Nick Vannett suffered a knee injury and is undergoing an MRI to determine the severity of it.
