All season long, the New Orleans Saints raved about Taysom Hill. With free agency a little over a week away, the front office showed just how they feel about the former BYU star.
Listing Hill as a dual-threat quarterback would be unfair. The versatile athlete has shown he can play block punts and even play a little bit of wide receiver. He finished this past season with six receiving touchdowns.
Hill has stated multiple times that he wants to be a quarterback somewhere in the NFL. Though he prefers to play quarterback in New Orleans, the team is still being led by Drew Brees. However, Sean Payton has said before that Hill could be the successor to Brees.
Well, it’s pretty clear that New Orleans doesn’t want to lose Hill. According to ESPN insider Adam Schefter, the Saints plan to place a first-round tender on Hill. This means they can match any offer sheet that he signs this offseason, and if he signs elsewhere, the Saints receive a first-round pick in return.
Saints putting money where mouth is: they’re planning to place 1st-round tender on restricted FA QB Taysom Hill, per source, meaning NO will have a chance to match any offer sheet he signs with another team or get back a first-round pick. Saints plan to re-sign him soon anyway.

Schefter believes the first-round tender for Hill will cost around $5 million for the 2020 season.
It’s tough to envision any team giving up a first-round pick for an unproven quarterback like Hill. On the other hand, it doesn’t sound like the Saints want to move on from him anyway.
New Orleans plans to re-sign Hill before he even reaches the open market, per Schefter.
Fans should brace for another season of Hill playing multiple roles on the Saints. After all, it’s entertaining to see how many ways he can impact a game.
