As expected, the New Orleans Saints are making it clear they want to keep quarterback Taysom Hill. They’ve officially tendered the jack-of-all-trades veteran as NFL free agency gets underway.
The tender is at the first-round level, according to Yahoo’s Charles Robinson. Any team looking to poach the restricted free agent weapon would have to pay a pretty penny.
Because of the tender, New Orleans has the right to match any offer Hill gets from another franchise. If the Saints choose not to, the other team would have to surrender a first-round pick to obtain Hill.
With Teddy Bridgewater looking to sign elsewhere, Hill will be the Saints’ primary backup to Drew Brees in 2020. Brees is a free agent, but him re-signing with New Orleans is a mere formality.

In 2019, Hill carried 27 times for 156 yards and a touchdown while catching 19 passes for 234 yards and six scores. Hill’s six receiving touchdowns was good for third-best on the roster.
As a passer, Hill completed 3-of-6 passes for 55 yards. He is 6-for-13 passing for 119 yards in two NFL seasons.
The NFL legal tampering period has begun, with free agency and the new league year starting on Wednesday.
