Earlier this morning, the New Orleans Saints reached an agreement on an extension for Drew Brees. Shortly after that news broke, a suitor emerged for Teddy Bridgewater.
When Brees went down with a thumb injury last season, Bridgewater stepped in and went 5-0 for the Saints. During that stretch he threw for 1,384 yards and nine touchdowns.
New Orleans would love to have Bridgewater back for the 2020 season, but it’s unrealistic for the front office to bring back two quarterbacks on starting salaries. However, it’s possible that Bridgewater remains in the NFC South.
According to ESPN reporter Dianna Russini, the Carolina Panthers are showing interest in Bridgewater. He would then replace Cam Newton, who has received permission to seek a trade this offseason.
The Carolina Panthers are showing very strong interest in quarterback Teddy Bridgewater per sources. I’m told the conversations have been going very well. #panthers

The Panthers hired Joe Brady as their offensive coordinator this offseason. He spent time with Bridgewater back in 2018 when he was an offensive assistant for the Saints.
Carolina appears to be going through a rebuilding process, so it wouldn’t hurt to add a 27-year-old quarterback.
Bridgewater has also received interest from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
It’ll be very interesting to see which team spends big on Bridgewater, who bounced back from a horrific injury that nearly ended his career.
