Last week, Drew Brees underwent surgery to repair torn ligaments in his thumb. New Orleans will have to wait a while until the future Hall of Famer returns to the field, but it sounds like his rehab is going well.
With Brees out of action for at least the next month, the Saints have turned to Teddy Bridgewater. In his first start of the season, the former first-round pick completed 19-of-27 pass attempts for 177 yards and two touchdowns.
The Saints managed to defeat the Seahawks on the road in Week 3. It’s an encouraging start for the team as it tries to remain in the playoff picture while Brees is out.
As for when the All-Pro quarterback might return, Sean Payton issued a promising update on his signal-caller.
Payton said that Brees will be back in New Orleans by the end of the week. He remained in California to rehab immediately after the surgery was completed.
It turns out the recovery timeline for Brees is going to be 4-7 weeks.

It’s an injury common in basketball. 4-7 wks timeline biggest thing will be when he feels confident gripping ball. pic.twitter.com/teFTI14Yee

His return to the gridiron should speed up once he feels confident gripping the football.
Since Brees is going to be in New Orleans by the end of the week, the team expects to have him on the sideline this weekend.
