This Saints' "Announcement" About Drew Brees' Return Is Going Viral

New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees gets hurt.

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA - SEPTEMBER 15: Drew Brees #9 of the New Orleans Saints injures his throwing hand as he is hit by Aaron Donald #99 of the Los Angeles Rams during the first quarter in the game at Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum on September 15, 2019 in Los Angeles, California. Update: This "statement" from the Saints, tweeted out by ESPN's NFL account and top insider Adam Schefter, appears to have been fake. The statement has been deleted by all accounts that tweeted it out.

The statement was an obvious nod to Michael Jordan's "I'm back" statement, though it remains to be seen if the Saints actually released it, or if ESPN just made it themselves.

Earlier: Earlier Saturday afternoon, ESPN NFL insiders Dianna Russini and Ed Werder reported that New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Drees would start this Sunday against the Arizona Cardinals. Not long after, the Saints confirmed the move. In an announcement from the team, Brees had a very simple comment. "The following statement was released today by Drew Bress, on behalf of his head coach Sean Payton of the New Orleans Saints located in New Orleans, LA, in response to his availability this Sunday: 'I'm back.'" Here's the official announcement from the team.

Brees will be back for the first time since he suffered a thumb injury against the Los Angeles Rams.

Brees underwent surgery on his thumb soon after the injury. After five weeks of rehab, Brees will retake the field for the Saints.

Teddy Bridgewater could not have performed better in Brees' absence, leading the Saints to five-straight victories. During his time as the starter, the former first-round pick has thrown for 1,370 yards and nine touchdowns.

The future Hall of Fame quarterback gets his first start since first suffering the injury by hitting Aaron Donald's hand.

New Orleans and Arizona kick off at 1:00 p.m. ET. The game will be broadcast on CBS.
