While NFL teams continue to ramp up their offseason training programs, each and every organization is also trying to combat the COVID-19 virus. But the battle hasn’t been easy so far.
Earlier this week, Washington Football Team head coach Ron Rivera revealed that his team hadn’t reached the 50 percent mark for vaccinations. He also shared that he was bringing in an expert to talk to players about the benefits of getting a COVID-19 vaccine.
“I’m the specialist,” Arians joked on Thursday morning, via ESPN’s Jenna Laine.
He was then asked what his message was to the team about the vaccine.
“Well if you want to go back to normal, get vaccinated. 85 percent is what we’re shooting for,” the Buccaneers head coach said. “I think everybody’s tired of eating outside and doing all of those things we had to do last year. It’s still a personal choice but I don’t see a reason not to get vaccinated.”
I asked Bruce Arians if he brought in a specialist to talk to players about the vaccine like coach Ron Rivera did in Washington.
“I’M THE SPECIALIST,” Arians said.

Arians is just the latest head coach to try and encourage his players to get a COVID-19 vaccine. Once NFL teams reach the 85 percent threshold, they’ll be able to operate under more normal circumstances with less restrictions during training camp and headed into the season.
Arians expressed his willingness and excitement to get the vaccine way back in December, prior to Super Bowl LV and well before vaccinations were available. Clearly he feels strongly that Buccaneers players should get their shots and he seems to be doing his best to encourage his team to do so.
The COVID-19 is safe, effective and widely available in the United States, so hopefully more teams will reach that 85 percent mark in the near future.
