There is no sense in Joel Glazer hiding it. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers' co-owner is beyond excited to have Tom Brady back in 2022.
"Having Tom Brady back is unbelievable," Glazer said on Monday at the annual league meetings. "He's been unbelievable for our franchise, as everyone knows. And I've never been around anybody with the tireless work ethic, the leadership, the person he is and having done it for so long. So having him back is the greatest news I heard all offseason."
Brady originally retired from football in February, only to reconsider and announce his return less than six weeks later, saying that his place is "still on the field and not in the stands."
Glazer indicated that it was a whirlwind of emotions from the time Brady said he was stepping away until his 180-degree change of heart after 39 days.
"You went through a lot of different emotions," Glazer said, via the Tampa Bay Times. "So, the first stage, where you just kind of felt the finality of the whole thing. But then, as time goes on, you think about it and you realize that there's a lot of emotion involved in a season and it's painful at the end of the season. I know how I feel at the end of a season, so you think about it, and you know how competitive Tom Brady is, that there's always a chance.
"Then he had time to reflect and think about things, and we're just thrilled to have him back."
Right now, Brady is only locked in to playing for the Bucs in 2022. He could always sign a contract extension in Tampa, but Bucs GM Jason Licht said he's not thinking too far into the future.
“You know, we’re just happy that we have him back,” Licht said. “We’ll see where it goes from here. We’re just happy that he’s going to be playing for us this year. We’ll see where it goes.”
