The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are widely considered favorites to win the NFC this year and among favorites to repeat as Super Bowl champions. But one ESPN analyst has a surprise pick for who could knock them off their throne.
On Wednesday’s edition of Get Up, ESPN’s Dan Orlovsky argued that the Washington Football Team will be “the biggest threat” to the Buccaneers in the NFC. He specifically pointed to Washington’s defense, which he believes will be the best in the NFL, as the main factor.
“I think this defense will be the best defense in football!” Orlovsky boldly said. He hinged his argument on the Washington defensive front four being able to get after Tom Brady and dominate.
Washington is coming off one of their best defensive efforts in over a decade. In 2020, they finished in the top four for points allowed and yards allowed for the first time since 1991 (their last Super Bowl season).
Pass rusher Chase Young immediately emerged as a top-tier defender as a rookie, earning Pro Bowl and Rookie of the Year honors while leading that defense.

But while the “defense wins championships” adage often holds true, the Washington offense is the key area that needs to be addressed.
Last year Washington ranked 25th in points and 30th in yards, going 7-9. They might have been worse had the NFC East not been so historically bad.
They have a new starting quarterback this year with Ryan Fitzpatrick taking over under center. But he’s never taken a team to the playoffs in over 15 years in the NFL.
Dan Orlovsky went bold with his pick for Washington to knock off Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. But anything can happen on any given Sunday.
