After a shaky few weeks with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Tom Brady has looked very sharp over the last few weeks. Peyton Manning (jokingly) shared some insight about what has changed with the Bucs offense.
In a recent episode of Detail on ESPN+, Manning went over Brady and the Bucs' decimation of the Green Bay Packers. Brady didn't have his most explosive statline, but was an effective 17-of-27 for 166 yards and two touchdowns in the 38-10 blowout win over Aaron Rodgers and company. The game solidified the Bucs as a real contender in the NFC, and was something of a breakout for the team's defense.
Manning broke down one of Brady's touchdown throws on the afternoon, on which he found wide receiver Tyler Johnson in the corner of the end zone to push the lead to 21-10. He believes that the Buccaneers have worked in more of the plays that Brady is comfortable running from his New England Patriots days as the season has gone on. Why did it take so long? Manning broke out a joke about Brady's embarrassing preseason moment, when he accidentally broke into a stranger's home.
"Why the Bucs weren't running his plays earlier in the season, I'm not sure," Peyton Manning jokes in the clip. "My guess: when Tom broke into that guy's house illegally, the settlement was that Tom would let that guy call the plays for the first couple of games."
Whoever owns the house that looks like (Buccaneers offensive coordinator) Byron Leftwich's house that Tom broke into, I think he said 'Hey look, if you don't press charges you can call the plays against the Saints.' So that's what happened, I'm just breaking the news here. (Adam) Schefter didn't even know that." When attempting to visit with Leftwich back in April, a few weeks after he signed with Tampa Bay, Brady accidentally walked into one of the OC's neighbors homes before realizing what had happened. Manning and Brady were fierce rivals when Manning starred for the Indianapolis Colts and Denver Broncos. The two share a pretty good relationship off the field, as evidenced by this summer's charity golf match. Peyton Manning also has a great sense of humor, so its not surprising to hear him sending some barbs his friend's way. Tom Brady is coming off of his best game with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, completing 33-of-45 passes for 369 yards and four touchdowns in a 45-20 win over the Las Vegas Raiders. He's really getting things rolling now. The Bucs travel to face the struggling New York Giants this weekend. [
